Negative Reinforcement

A form of reinforcement where a behavior results in the avoidance or removal of an aversive (unpleasant) stimulus. Negative reinforcement is commonly confused with punishment, however since negative reinforcement is a form of reinforcement it increases the probability of the behavior occurring again in the future.
